The trick can also be done using a suit jacket or sports coat. Tie the ropes on one end of the hanger, put the coat on the hanger and feed the rope ends through the sleeves. Use one end from each sleeve to tie a knot. Now simply remove the hanger and have the spectators pull on their respective ends and the coat will come off. You may find this presentation more effective with the Harry Houdini story line. For example, you could say the coat represents a straitjacket and then demonstrate how a magician might escape from it.
